Subscribe to comments temporarily disabled

As I have just read here, using the Subscribe to comments plugin can pose legal problems in Germany.

Therefore I have temporarily disabled the plugin on this website and will probably switch to the Comment Mailer plugin which offers a double-opt-in policy. This means that you have to click on a confirmation link in order to receive the comment notifications. Otherwise a comment notification could be interpreted as spam.

IMHO this is a ridiculous interpretation, but as I am not the law, I guess I have to live with this :-( .

    Thanks for pointing this out — I’m like you, it seems rather silly but it is good to know what is going on behind the scenes.

    indeed!

    But as far as I understand this, this only applies to website operators which live in Germany. But I am no lawyer, so actually can’t comment on this in a qualified way.
