HurlZ.com – URL shortening (not only) for hams!
Peter, M3PHP (also a fellow blogger) has initiated a project called HurlZ.com – a combination of Hz (for Hertz) and URL (for URL – Uniform Resource Locater).
HurlZ.com is a URL shortening service similar to tinyurl.com and 301url.com. The really new stuff is that you can sign up and receive a “subdirectory” for your own redirects e.g. http://hurlz.com/dl6kac/1 will redirect to this blog. So if you have really long urls like http://ham-blog.de/radio-blog/2006/google-analytics-no-longer-needs-invitation-code/ you can convert them to http://hurlz.com/dl6kac/x., where x stands for a running number. So far you cannot delete your custom URLs but I am sure this is relatively easy to implement.
Additionally HurlZ.com offers “standard” URL shorting: e.g. http://dl6kac.googlepages.com/home will be shortened to http://hurlz.com/104 which is much shorter. The URL redirect is done via a http 301 (permanent redirect) so that the danger of URL hijacking does not exist!
There is no need to sign up but if you want to use the folder feature an account is mandatory.
Give it a try! I like it.
