Alternative to YouSendIt.com
Recently I had the necessity to send some files > 10MB to a friend of mine (In this case some pile up recordings). Email did not work as most mail servers reject attachment bigger than 10 MB (although some allow 20 MB). Storing it on my webspace didn’t work either as I did not have much space left
.
I remembered that a friend of mine told me about YouSendIt.com, an online storage service similar to imageshack.us (which is an image server). YouSendIt.com worked fine although upload and download speed sometimes was pretty slow (and I am only on a 1MBit DSL line with something like 128Kbit Upload).
Until recently you could send files up to 1 GB for free. Yesterday they set the limit to 100 MB which is still a lot but as files grow bigger and bigger this might not be enough.
Creative Guy has compiled a very comprehensive list of free online storage services (about 50 services listed). His list contains a detailed description of each service so if you are looking for a place to temporarely store your files you might want to check it out
.
A service which is not yet online but sounds promising is Xdrive by AOL. 5 GB for free
. XDrive will go live in September/October this year.

I’m an audio engineer and came across b2bfiles.net which lets you send 2G for free.
The catch is you are only allowed to send to 2 recipients per month.
It’s a googd alternative to yousendit when you need to send files larger than 100MB.
Thought the online community would find this useful,
Cheers
