Google Talk – an alternative to Skype?
Google has launched its talk and instant-messaging service, called “Google-Talk”. Features include so far voice-over-ip and instant messaging. The download is very small – only about 900k and it is supposed to work with 56k modems.
Linux and Mac-Users can use other clients to connect to Google-Talk. It even works with Trillian-Pro.
Unfortunately it is coupled with G-Mail and right now you can’t sign up for new g-mail accounts. Except you have received an invitation from an existing g-mail account.
According to the Google-Talk FAQ no ads are “shown” during usage.
11. Do I see ads when I use Google Talk?
We aren’t showing any ads on Google Talk. There are no pop-ups or clutter—just a clean and simple interface to make it easy for you to communicate instantly with your friends.
For my part I am going to wait to see if there is any sort of spyware included… Better safe than sorry (but not paranoid
).
