I was qrv as XE1/DL6KAC from autumn 2005 until spring/summer 2006. The mexico trip was QRL related and unfortunately I could not setup a decent station at my QTH so that I was only active sporadically. QSL cards go via my homecall DL6KAC. I operated several times from the QTH of Ramon, XE1KK (EK09xx) who lives in the south of Mexico City. Usually I was active on 40m and 80m. Seldom on 20m as this band was closed when I had opportunity to operate (usually during in the evenings of weekdays). Ramon has a quite impressive setup at this QTH which consists of the following equipment (beside other):
- Transceiver: FT-1000 Mark V (please read this post about power reduction in Class A mode)
- Amplifier: Ameritron xxx
- Antennas:
- 160m: inverted vee dipole @ 20m
- 80m: inverted vee dipole @ 20m
- 40m: 3 el Beam from M² @ 20m
- 30m – 10m: 10el Logperiodic from M² @ 25m
Another place from where I was active was the clubstation of the University of Guanajuato XE1CXC (XXxxxx). XE1CXC is located in Salamanca at FIMEE (Facultad de Ingeniería Mecánica Eléctrica y Electrónica). FIMEE is a branch of the University of Guanajuato and is located in Salamanca which is located about 80km from the city of Guanajuato. FIMEE is specialised in training of Engineers.
For a club station XE1CXC has “paradise” condition. Two towers and more than enough space for wire antennas. Antennas on the high bands are beams (2el fullsize on 20m, 3el on 15m and 3el on10M) and wires on the lowbands (Delta-Loop for 40m and Dipoles from 160m to 40m). As a transceiver they are using a Kenwood TS-530S.
Additionally to my radio activity I attended two radio meetings. In September 2005 the meeting of the Radio Club Queretaro (Invitation for 2006 can be viewed here) and in October the FMRE meeting in Veracruz. Both events are great so if you are in the area thing about attending them. In 2006 the FMRE meeting will be held in Colima.
I operated in three contests from Mexico. CQ WW DX SSB 2005, WPX SSB 2006, IARU 2006, WPX SSB 2007 and WPX 2008. In this case we used the clubstation callsigns as reciprocal licences are not allowed to participate in contests. Beside that I operated in 2009 the special event station 4A1DXXE.
